How to Disable a Tablet PC Input Panel in Vista

Windows Vista's Tablet PC Input Panel provides additional support for tablets. Users can teach Windows to recognize their handwriting, adjust pressure sensitivity and pen strokes. When a tablet is plugged into your computer, Vista will automatically detect it and install the Tablet PC components. However, when the device is unplugged, the panel will not go away, and the other components will continue to process in the background. This is both annoying and a waste of memory and processing power.

Instructions
  1. Click on the Start button and open the "Control Panel."
  2. Click on "Programs" and then click on "Turn Windows features on and off."
  3. Deselect the check-box next to "Tablet PC Optional Components" by clicking on it once. Click "OK" to save changes.
  4. If prompted, restart your computer.
