The Inspiration for What Should Have Been The Blockbuster Movie of 2010, Comes to Your iPad!Sadly the epic epicness of the Edgar (Shaun of the Dead) Wright directed hyper active, eye ball melting big screen version of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s amazing comic book series, Scott Pilgrim failed to connect with a mainstream audience. With the movie, surely, destined o find a huge cult following on Blu-ray and DVD, this epic application from Harper Collins enables you to live the Mr. Pilgrim’s comic book origins where ever the feeling may take you.

For fans of the series or the other three people that saw the movie, this app is the perfect addition to your iPad, yet this is much more than a simple comic book crammed in an application. More on that latter, but for now let’s bring the noobs up to speed with the plot, the titular character is a twenty-something loser, who spends his days playing video games and rocking out with his garage band as life passes him by. Until he reaches a massive STOP sign that set his life on a whole new course, the girl of his dreams, Ramona. Alas this isn’t a case of boy meets girl, as the path to true love is blocked by her seven ex’s, and they aren’t happy and are in fact looking for a fight! Cue much kung fu movie/video game inspired mayhem, wrapped in geek/slacker culture with a keen with. Will Scott defeat his foes, and find love or will you be too busy having a great time to even care?
The reasons this comic book series works so well, is clearly the reason the flick tanked at the box office, O’Malley’s plot finds its deeply ingrained in videogame and geek culture that many of the jokes and pin sharp references will be lost on the mainstream. Leaving those who don’t know the difference between Mario and Sonic will themselves alienated as they, quite frankly, won’t get it! Yet those of us, who have spent the youth seeking out the level warps in Super Mario Bros and learning King’s chained combo on Tekken, Scott Pilgrim will feel deeply personal, and massively entertaining.
The app comes preloaded with the first volume and provides one tap access to the remaining five Scott Pilgrim comic book volumes, yet instead of the static pages accompanied with silence we have come to expect from this category of the App Store, we are treated to something very special. As specific sections of the comic book include animated effects, which add hugely to the atmosphere. Scott Pilgrim for iPad is a must have app for those of us, who are proud to call ourselves, Geeks!
