iPad’s Split Keyboard

The new iOS5 is said to come with a split keyboard, and if you are a loyal Apple user then you would think it is another Apple invention. However Android  users will be quick to tell you that it’s a technology that has been on the Android for a while now. But if you get to use these two different keyboards you will know the true difference between them. Of course you will have to own both these gadgets which is a bit silly, but if you are a tech geek then this would quite normal for you. We therefore thought of bringing you a few distinguishing details between iPad’s split keyboard  and the Android split keyboard.

There is one highly distinguishing factor that sets both these split keyboards apart. This is again one of the reasons that Google will have to do something about its split keyboard if it wants to be better in this game. We are not complaining though, the advantage lies in Apple’s iOS court to see how far it could go with iPad’s Split Keyboard since it allows the user to set up the keyboard wherever they want to on the screen, landscape or portrait. That’s not all; even the Android keyboard is much thinner as compared to the Apple’s which means a lot more stress for your fingers. With the Apple iOS keyboard you can place the keyboard on the top, bottom or even middle of the screen. It just shows that Apple is concerned about giving the user the best possible experience.

ry and use the keyboard on your iOS just at the bottom of the screen, and if you are going through a few WebPages you know that the keyboard covers up half of that page. Now just because this is a split keyboard you can float it on top of the screen since you’ve already read that part. It makes reading and working on documents much easier. Most users might argue about the scroll, which you obviously can use when you want to move text to a proper reading level.

So what’s the big deal about having the choice to use the split keyboard and having to move it wherever you want on your screen? The best thing about this is that you can type longer, especially if you are the kind of person who has to reply to hundreds of mails in a day or you are forever on some kind of office application.

Again there is the dock that will help you place the iPad in a position that makes typing easier and faster. It does seem like a minor thing, but you will only realize how useful it is once you’ve tried it. The good thing about the dock is that you can always choose a typing angle that is convenient to you, which is several times better than a keyboard that’s fixed.

It does seem therefore that the Apple iOS is the much preferred choice as compared to the Android especially if typing and browsing is what you do most of the time. If the Android engineers want to please users in this department then they need to look up a strategy that will leave Apple new entry for the iPad split keyboard behind, on this front at least.
